7 things

My friend Chris tagged me...now I have to post 7 facts about me.....at the bottom I'll list those who I am tagging......All you have to do is list 7 unusual or little known facts about yourself and then TAG 7 more people!

1. I lived in the same town, same house my entire life...until I left for college..that's when my parents sold the house and moved a few miles down the road. It was the BEST house...big, surrounded by forest, quiet, safe.....sure do miss that house.

2. I have only had 5 jobs my entire life.....as a lifeguard, at a small town burger joint, as a media clerk in a library, as a clerk at House of Fabrics (unfortunately before scrappin' took over my life...think of the discounts!!! LOL) and as a teacher.

3. I met Dave during my senior year in high school....he was actually dating my best friend....hmm, nope, we're not really friends any more (actually have lost contact with her).

4. My biggest pet peeve is people who are LATE or TARDY!!! Drives me nuts...if you say you are going to be here at a certain time..you better be here or call!!!

5. I still keep in touch with several friends who I have known since 1st grade and before! Guess that is what happens when you grow up in a small town and your parents know everyone!

6. I played the clarinet for 10 years........even went to ensemble competitions.

7. I am left handed but CANNOT cut with a pair of scissors with my left hand......that was a hard concept to make my mom understand...she thought that if I was left handed then I should cut left handed!!!!

Okay....the following people are tagged: TINA, RACHEL, JANE, LINDA, ANNE MARIE, TISHA, and MICHELLE

I SCRAPPED!!

I have been in such a scrappin' slump lately......haven't really done any creating in about a month!!! Just sat here looking at all my pretty papers and ribbons and toys and did nothing....but today my friend Tilda gave me a challenge: use a photo of each boy, a flower, my bottle cap stamps, ribbon and a journal box.....here's what I came up with....

Relay for Life

We participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life this past weekend....what a wonderful experience that I think will become a yearly event for our family! It was a LONG 24 hours but it was so much fun! Since it was our first year doing it, we really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into but we learned a lot and are ready for next year! One of the really nice things was that it was sooo family friendly...the boys could go walk the track, play games, visit people, get food...all on their own. Both boys walked many laps...Evan doing a full hour of walking with his Uncle Chris! Evan also helped put sand/candles in the luminaria, place them around the track and then clean them up the next morning. His principal was the one in charge and welcomed the help.....and Evan was excited to get his 8 hour service project done for a scouting merit badge!
Following a long, fun busy day was Alex's birthday! Yesterday he turned 8!!! Yikes...my baby is 8!!! We celebrated by opening presents and having Cold Stone Ice Cream for lunch!!!!! ONLY on birthdays does something like that happen!!!! Even Dave kept shaking his head in disbelief that I would suggest something like that!!!!! Guess it was a guilty mommy coming out cause we didn't do a party or anything for him!!!!! But we did remind him that he actually did a wonderful thing on his birthday...helping others who need our help!

The simple things

A little thing I borrowed from my friend Tisha's blog.....so nice to sit down and think of the little things in our lives for a while.

1. Name five FREE things that make you happy.

my children's laughter

a walk on a cool evening

hearing the birds singing in the morning

hugs from my boys

an email from a friend

2. Name four little things you sometimes purchase to make you happy.

chocolate (always makes me happy!)

a scrappin' magazine

a new CD

scrapbook supplies

3. Name three things you are looking forward to in the near future.

Alex being out of school for the summer

a visit with our friend Tim (who lives in England)

walking in the Relay for Life

4. Name two things you are hoping will happen soon.

I'll get my MOJO back to scrap!

It will cool off a little bit.

5. Name one thing you would do if you had one day all to yourself and money was no object.

hmmm, a day to myself??? Probably go to some HUGE scrapbooking store...buy tons of stuff and then scrap with my friends!

Okay.....now it's your turn!!! Let me know if you put this on your blog!!!

Home...sweet home...

Well, Evan and I arrived home last night at about 10:30pm. Why is it always harder to fly west than it is to fly east???? I am BEAT today...even though I got about 7 hours of sleep...kind of feel like my head is in a fog. We had an amazing trip....saw so many things and spent some fun time together.
Some of the things we did.....downtown Charleston, Patriot's Point (toured the USS Yorktown) and Ft. Sumter, Myrtle Beach, Alligator Adventure, sunrise on the beach, Cypress Gardens, a drive around the Citadel, Beaufort and Hunting Island....oh and a day of ice skating!!! When asked what his favorite thing was Evan just replies while shaking his head "Don't ask....I've loved it all". I am so proud of how well behaved he was.....so polite and well mannered.
I'll get some photos up soon.....

Summer is HERE!!

Well...at least partially here! Evan is now officially a 6th grader....which is difficult for me to grasp. One more year and he'll be in junior high.......he received an award for HONOR ROLL on Thursday for having outstanding grades. His report card this trimester wasn't as good as the last one was but still good. I had noticed him not putting 110% effort in...but his teachers comments were touching!
So now that he's off...what to do with him??? This week he and I are heading to Charleston, SC to visit one of my closest friends. Can't wait to see her....she moved a year ago and I've only seen her once since. Alex and Dave will hold down the fort here.....Alex still has 4 more weeks of school!
With the ending of school, it's also the ending of my first year not teaching full time...what a GREAT year it's been. I really don't miss the daily interactions with the kids as much as I thought I would. What I do miss is the friendships with the other teachers. Next year I'll be teaching for about 6 months for another teacher here at our neighborhood school (YEAH!!!)...so we'll see how I like the day to day teaching again!
Hmm, just got a report that the temp of the pool is about 84 degrees...should I venture in??? Problem is..that's the temp for the top 6 inches....the bottom 5 feet is COLD!!! Yep...summer has most definately arrived here......
